Library Media Center Hours of Operation

The Ermineskin Library Media Center is open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. every school day. We are open during lunch hour for students to sign out books or work on their AR points. Students must come with a purpose for learning and a library pass for elementary students. Faculty members are welcome to browse and pick up materials in person. Library materials are circulated using the automation program, Symphony. A web-based part of the program provides look-up stations on any available computer.

Books

Kindergarten and grade 1 may checkout one book per library visit. The loan period is weekly. Students in the 2nd and 3rd grades may checkout two books each week. Students in the 4th thru 6th grades may check out three books each week. Special permission for more materials may be granted when necessary for an assignment.

Reference Materials

Reference materials are to be used by students in the library media center. Teachers may borrow reference materials for use in the classroom when necessary.

Audio Visual Materials/Equipment

Students are not allowed to checkout AV materials. Most AV equipment is checkout at the start of the school year. We have limited overheads available so if you require one please see librarian.

Periodicals

Magazines and newspapers are not be taken out of the library media center by students, but may be check out for faculty members. Only current issues are displayed. Back issues can be found in storage area of library.

Faculty Checkouts

Faculty may checkout unlimited numbers of materials as long as needed. However an overdue notice will be emailed to you after 28 days. If you still required resources, please email or phone library staff. Periodicals and equipment must be signed out at the circulation desk if taken outside the library. Items should be returned after use so that others may use them.


Overdues and Fines

Overdue notices (for students) are given to teachers on a weekly basis when they come to their regular library class. To help students learn to be responsible, no new loans will be permitted until overdue materials are returned. Overdue notices for staff members will be automatically emailed to you. Please contact library staff to renew books.


Lost and Damaged Books

If a book is lost or damaged, the book must be paid for before additional books can be checked out. Debts remaining at the end of the school year may be turned into office and become a part of the student's permanent file. Fines will remain with students until they are taken care of. Special permission may be given to students to allow them to work off their fines by the librarian.
